The MAX7219 is a driver module that controls 8x8 LED matrix displays or 8-digit 7-segment displays with SPI protocol via only 3 pins (DIN, CLK, CS). It is possible to chain multiple MAX7219 modules together to create larger display arrays. It is widely used for letter and number display as well as simple animations and marquee applications. Ready-made libraries compatible with Arduino and ESP series boards are available.
