The L293D Motor Driver Shield is an extremely comprehensive control board that can be plugged directly onto Arduino Uno and Mega boards (in shield form), completely eliminating cable clutter. It has the capacity to drive 4 independent DC motors (speed and direction controlled), 2 bipolar stepper motors and 2 servo motors at the same time thanks to the two L293D H-Bridge integrations and 74HC595 shift register. It can provide a continuous current of 600mA (instantaneous 1.2A) for each channel. It is one of the most preferred driver cards in 4-wheeled robot cars, robotic arms and multi-motor automation projects as it offers fast and regular prototyping without using a breadboard.
